The Australian spiny-tailed skink is the first diurnal exemplar I keep. Its rather bizarre outward appearance as well as the fact that the female animal gives birth to living youngs made me feel obliged to take this species in my care. The terrarium has a structured back wall and modeled side panels so that the animals have as much freedom as possible and hence are able to avoid each other if necessary. This animal does not only have carnal food on the menu. Vegetarian components (like salad, clover and dandelion) also make out an essential part of its nourishment. Therefore Egernia stokesii is a species of medium size. With good care it becomes tame fast.
